From Mash to Pellet: Mastering the Pelleting Section for Superior Feed Quality
Pelleting is more than just physical compression; it is a sophisticated thermo-chemical transformation. In Gamma Tech’s pelleting section, mash feed is first conditioned with steam for starch gelatinization before being extruded by the pellet mill. The hot pellets then enter the counter-flow cooler, where a precision-controlled aspiration system (fan and cyclone) ensures uniform cooling and moisture removal. For specialized starter feed, the crumbler provides precise particle reduction, while the rotary sifter performs the final grading to eliminate fines. This integrated flow ensures a high Pellet Durability Index (PDI) and optimal feed conversion for the end-user.

Regular Operation&Maintainance
Adjustment of Rollers & Ring Die Clearance
Proper clearance between the ring die and press rollers is critical for peak performance. At Gamma Tech, we recommend maintaining a gap between 0.05mm and 0.3mm. Incorrect adjustment can lead to excessive wear on parts or a significant drop in production capacity.
Step-by-Step Adjustment Procedure:
Preparation: Open the door cover, unscrew the die cover bolts, and remove the cover. Thoroughly clean any material buildup from the inner surface of the Ring Die (1) and the outer surface of the Press Rollers (2).
Loosening: Loosen the Lock Nut (6) to release the adjustment mechanism.
Regulation: Turn the Adjustment Screw (5) to rotate the eccentric shaft. Follow the arrow on the adjustment wheel:
Decrease Gap: Turn in the direction of the arrow.
Increase Gap: Turn in the opposite direction.
Note: If adjustment is impossible in the indicated direction, the rollers may be incorrectly installed.
Verification: Use a feeler gauge for precision. For field adjustments, the rollers should be set so they are just barely touching the die—turning the ring die by hand should cause the rollers to rotate slightly (the “touch-and-go” method).
Securing: Once the gap is set, tighten the lock nut firmly to prevent loosening during high-vibration operation. Reinstall the die cover and tighten all bolts.
Adjustment of the Cutter Assembly
The length of the finished pellets varies depending on their diameter. Generally, the optimal pellet length is 1.5 to 3 times its diameter. Proper adjustment ensures uniform product size and minimizes dust.
Adjustment Procedure:
Loosen the Locking Handle: Start by loosening the Locking Handle (11) on the Cutter Bar (7).
Position the Cutter: Pull out the Cutter Bar (7) to a workable position.
Set the Length: Loosen the locking handle on the Positioning Ring (13). Adjust the distance based on the scale marked on the cutter bar until the positioning ring makes contact with the Sleeve (8).
Final Secure: Once the desired length is set, tighten the cutter bar handle firmly to lock it in place.
Adjustment of Conditioner Paddle Angles
The installation angle of the conditioner paddles directly determines the filling coefficient and the retention time of the material within the conditioner. By adjusting these angles, operators can precisely control how long the mash is exposed to steam, ensuring optimal conditioning based on specific production requirements.
Adjustment Principles:
Large Angle: Results in a lower filling coefficient and shorter conditioning time (faster material flow).
Small Angle: Results in a higher filling coefficient and longer conditioning time (slower material flow).
Adjustment Procedure:
Disassembly: First, remove the conditioner shaft from the housing.
Loosening: Slightly loosen the fastening bolts on the paddle arms.
Angle Regulation: Use a wrench or a small wooden mallet to gently tap the paddles to increase or decrease the installation angle as required (refer to the guide in Figure 13).
Securing: After adjustment, firmly tighten all nuts. Conduct a thorough check to ensure there are no loose components before reinstalling the shaft.

The FAQs About Gamma Pellet Mill
Solutions Behind the Machinery: Your Questions, Our Expertise
Selecting the right SZLH series pellet mill is a strategic investment for your feed plant’s next 10 years. We know that beyond the technical brochures, you care about real-world performance: What is the actual lifespan of the ring die? How do we handle moisture in Egypt’s climate? What happens during a power overload?
Transparency is the foundation of our partnership at Wuxi Gamma. Below, we have compiled the 6 most critical questions asked by our industrial clients in the Middle East, Africa, and beyond. These aren’t just answers—they are the engineering standards we live by to ensure your production line never stops.
Why is your gear-driven system better than traditional belt-driven models?
In high-capacity feed mills (10–30 TPH), belt slippage is the biggest enemy of efficiency. Our SZLH gear-driven system increases power transmission efficiency by 15%. This means more torque, zero slippage, and a much more stable output, especially when producing high-density livestock or poultry feed.
How long is the service life of your ring dies?
We use SS420 high-chromium alloy steel blanks combined with precision Gun-Drill processing and vacuum heat treatment. Under standard operating conditions, our ring dies typically last 500–800 hours. This is significantly longer than standard carbon steel dies, drastically reducing your annual spare parts budget.
Can your machine handle different animal feed types (Pig, Sheep, Fish)?
es. The SZLH Series is highly versatile. By adjusting the compression ratio of the ring die and the steam injection in our SS304 multi-layer conditioner, you can produce high-quality pellets for pigs, sheep, and even sinking aquafeed with a PDI exceeding 90%.
How do you protect the machine from metal impurities or overloads?
Safety is our priority. Every SZLH pellet mill is equipped with a powerful magnetic separator at the feeder and a mechanical shear pin system. If a metal object enters the chamber or an overload occurs, the shear pin breaks instantly to protect the main shaft and gearbox from catastrophic damage.
Is the conditioner made of real stainless steel?
Absolutely. We use food-grade SS304 for the entire conditioning barrel and the mixing paddles. This is crucial for international trade (like our projects in Egypt), as it prevents corrosion from high-pressure steam and ensures the hygiene and safety of the final feed product.
How do you ensure the 110kW+ machines arrive safely in the Middle East or Africa?
We have extensive experience shipping to ports like Alexandria and Jeddah. We use industrial-grade moisture-proof wrapping and reinforced steel base frames to stabilize the machines inside the container. As seen in our Egypt 4-set project, every unit is multi-point anchored to ensure zero movement during ocean transit.
